Earthquake update
On Friday, March 11th 2011, an earthquake occurred up north of us around 2:50 pm. We had just finished our last exam for the grading period and students either were on their way home or joining their club activities. Our school began to shake and as we froze and waited for it to stop, it continued on and shook our school to the point of books and files falling off of shelves. We covered for protection and gathered our students into the gym. We immediately turned on the news and within 40 minutes, we saw the tsunami hit with great force. As we watched helplessly, we continued to have aftershocks that were at times fierce enough to take cover again. Transportation came to a halt and many students, teachers, parents and alumni were unable to leave the school to go home. About 350 people remained at our school overnight. There were no injuries and no damages to our school which we are so grateful for. We are thankful that God had His hand of protection over us. Our prayers go out to the people who have lost loved ones, those who are trying to still find their loved ones, those who have lost their homes and businesses. We have been warned to close our school for the next week due to government induced power outages and transportation difficulties.
